It's been a long week. Last night was the opening night for the UVU production of "Oklahoma!". I'm the Assistant Sound Engineer for the show. It's cool being behind the audio board again after not having REALLY done anything since my days at the television studio. Now after a week of tech and lighting rehearsals, things finally came together last night. Not perfect, but it came off rather well. I will admit that I'm uber tired with all the late nights, but it's good. I like things like live theatre. It's like working conventions. Or live television. There's something electric about live events, even if it wears me out. Keeping up with class assignments are proving to be a bit difficult, but it's only until the 29th, so I think I can survive. I have very little time left right now with classes, work and then the production duties... 7am to 11pm...
The show itself is really good. At least what I can hear of it. I have little time to actually WATCH the play because I'm behind the audio board, spending most of the show watching the script and making sure the music comes off ok. (la-ho-ma... heh. :P ) I do have a few times where I can see things, mostly when we have long numbers before the intermission.
And I totally blame Rodgers and Hammerstein for all those songs getting stuck in everyone's heads.
Tonight, I have to drop the "Assistant" from my title since our Sound Engineer is out of town. It should be an interesting night to say the least. I hope things work well... Especially since tonight is probably the night people will come to do write-ups on the show. We've had it all pretty much figured out, but it is live, so anything can happen. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though. :)
